Tourism sector is one of the major contributors to Nepal’s ecconomy with a contribution of about 6.7% to Nepal’s GDP. This industry largely depends upon the utilization of the natural resources and energy consuming activities. If a sustainable approach isn’t considered by the tourism industry, then it could be a potential reason for depletion of the natural resources and environmental pollution. Taking this into consideration Barahi Jungle Lodge situated at Meghauli has been adapting sustainable practices throughout their hotel by implementing ISO 14001. UN World Tourism Organization defines sustainable tourism as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities”.
This case study depicts how the hotel is approaching to the sustainable tourism and implementing Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015). Different socio-ecconomic changes have been seen after the sustainable approach. Though Barahi had to face some challenges initially, it was successful overcoming those challenges which has now benefited Barahi in various approach. The application of ISO 14001:2015 and the commitment of top management is contributing for minimzing the environmental impact, planning and continual improvement.
Key words: Sustainability, Tourism, ISO 14001, Nature, and Standard.
Originally trained as an industrial metallurgist, Jeff’s career journey has been one in which Quality has been the abiding theme. He is founder and managing director of RelianSys®, an innovative SaaS firm that provides governance automation solutions to organisations that want to achieve excellence in audit, compliance, risk and delegation management.
Jeff was President of the Australian Organisation for Quality 2015-2019 and has continued as a Director. He currently leads the Professional Recognition Scheme project.

As we approach the end of the first quarter of this century, the disruption of the first two decades becomes more clearly appreciated, including in the field of Quality management. The definition and acquisition of the necessary body of knowledge for Quality practitioners has also been impacted. In the past there were reasonably established learning pathways to building Quality knowledge and competence. However, in Australia these have failed to evolve to meet the emerging challenges.
In order to meet the market need for pathways to and benchmarks of Quality practitioner competence, Australian Organisation for Quality has developed an innovative professional recognition scheme, designed to meet the needs of the interested parties, in order to create a new generation of capable Quality practitioners.
This presentation explores the historical and contemporary context and explains the design framework and the construct of the AOQ Professional Recognition Scheme.

This abstract explores a transformative perspective on quality, aiming to redefine conventional notions by extending its scope beyond mere customer satisfaction and financial gains. The primary objective is to illustrate how quality can function as a pivotal driver for holistic success, intertwining social, environmental, and economic dimensions. Notably, the discourse emphasizes the inverse relationship between quality and the triple bottom line, asserting that industries can optimize this dynamic by adopting a broader view of quality. The key lies in implementing robust quality management strategies that encompass system thinking, adherence to quality standards, cultivation of a quality-centric culture, and effective risk management. This abstract advocates for a comprehensive approach to quality that goes beyond traditional boundaries, presenting a compelling case for industries to embrace a multifaceted understanding of quality for sustained and balanced growth.

We live in a time of compounding existential crises including: climate change, accelerating extinctions, economic/political/social conflicts... A key question arising is how to respond to these crises in a fully human way. In particular, we have to identify and adopt “post-doom” responses.
Technology alone will not save the day. It is people centred and societal approaches that will make a difference.
This session will therefore address the role of Quality in shaping real human responses to our current time. I believe this is an idea that challenges the present and will evoke the future.
The novel facilitation process will harness the wisdom in the room and co-create new insights. For our purposes, the more diverse perspectives, the better.
A key underlying theme is that effectively harnessing group experience can be done rapidly.
In general, I think the group may identify insights along the following lines:
The actual conclusions will be generated by the group during the session.

At Ganga Medical Centre and Hospitals, Patient handovers in Emergency Department is an important and complex issue with unique challenges and obstacles. Handover of care is one of the most perilous procedures in medicine, and when carried out improperly can be a major contributory factor to subsequent error and harm to patients. Lack of conceptual framework and guidelines leads to break down in communications which is the leading cause for patient harm incidents. The incidents like identification errors, missed diagnosis, documentation, missed payment were recurrent during handovers from Emergency to the Resuscitation room located in the 4th floor / 5th floor.
The Handover provides a standardized framework for shift handover in the Emergency Department. It includes clinical and operational information necessary for efficient management and organization of the next shift. Handover promotes better communication and proactive management of issues relating to the shift, allowing the user to anticipate problems and ultimately heighten awareness of potential patient safety issues.
Clinical handover is a high-risk area for patient safety and quality in health care and therefore of high priority for the ED. The EDVITALS tool was derived to emphasize on a culture of patient safety and also for easy recollection of the desired information to be included for a quicker and safer continuity of care between shifts in the ED leading to improved patient satisfaction. The tool is developed based on best practices and it reminds us that handover is the new age mantra to safety of patients and advocates following it religiously.

All organizations have a management system. That system is comprised of processes that interact internally that need to be agile to respond to its changing context both internally and externally. Yet the inherent and internal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats need to be tempered and prioritised within various planning task. This is so that management system is resilient and resourced as it optimizes stakeholders and relevant interested parties needs and expectations. The Keep Change Create” methodology will be the basis for managers to determine the “ACT-ION-S” to assess and lead “Embedding Strategic Change” efforts through a process-based and integrated management system.

Probably the suggested broad application of the PHVA concept in management systems leads to prioritizing inspection and corrective actions, rather than planning. The management, however, is framed within the administrative cycle developed by Henri Fayol that includes six steps, the first 4 being those that correspond to the before, the 5th the operation to the during and the 6th the control that closes the administrative cycle, to the after.
The various models that have been developed to propose the steps for the creation of quality give a sequence as proposed by the triad of progress of the elements of the before, during and after, with the initial elements being what must be prioritized, so that the subsequent ones are less exhaustive, achieving a highly achievable management with a minimum of deviation from the goals set. On the other hand, if forecasting and planning are not prioritized, there will be a need for greater intervention in the aftermath, decreasing effectiveness and increasing inefficiency.
From the above, it is concluded that quality management should consist of facilitating the planning of robust processes which have a stable behavior and a wide capacity of more than 1.33 sigma, which will ensure that what is planned is of quality and does not require verifications.
Advanced quality planning, which is the model used by the automotive industry to make it effective, is the use of the so-called preventive controls, which consist of control measures that are applied as early as possible.
If we number the times in which the control measures are applied from 1 as early as possible to 10 to remedy the contingency that has occurred. Preventive controls will be located at points 1 to 4, during controls from 5 to 7 and after controls from 8 to 10.
Let's use control measures with less value in the control plans that will be the most preventive, and we will enjoy an afterlife without so much remediation intervention.
